The 'triple junction' solar cell is unique to United Solar, each cell is composed of three semiconductor junctions stacked on top of each other, each absorbing a different spectrum of light. This spectrum splitting of light results in effecting a 30% increase, per square foot, over the previous tandem modules. The active silicon material is deposited on unbreakable stainless steel and encapsulated in UV stabilized polymers, framed in anodized aluminum and backed with a steel plate for additional stiffness.
