Help us build this page!
Send us your stories about your E-Z Kold units and include a picture of your installation, your boat, yourselves...
Let us know what system you have, how long you’ve had it and details on about your boat. For any personal information you include, please let us know what can or cannot be placed on the web site.
We are also planning a page with links to related marine web sites. Send us any URLs that you would think would be of interest to our visitors and if you have a boating web page send us your URL if you would like us to add it to our Marine Links page.

Karen & Tom, onboard Serendipity, sent us this copy of a letter they had sent to the editors of several boating magazines...

To the Editor:
In this age of voice mail and e-mail, any cruiser who has ever tried to call a service department from a sometimes functioning payphone on any island in the Caribbean will appreciate an equipment manufacturer who answers the phone in person. No interminable costly holds, no pre-recorded messages, just a real voice asking “How may I help you?”

Our refrigeration failed shortly before we left the Dominion Republic in December. We’ve had our E-Z Kold air/water cooled holding plate system on board Serendipity, our Columbia 43, and have run it mercilessly in the tropics for ten years with almost no problems. In August 2000, however we replaced the compressor and switched from R12 to R134A refrigerant. We assumed the failure had something to do with the new compressor.

Since we planned to provision in Puerto Rico before heading south, we needed a working refrigerator/freezer. So we called Marvin Nye at E-Z Kold in Canada . . . and he answered the phone! He also walked us through several diagnostic procedures, but suggested we have someone local look at the system. We did, three times. Three different refrigeration specialists gave us three different diagnoses, but none was able to fix the problem.

After three more phone calls to Marvin (who made himself available at pre-arranged times when we knew we’d be near a payphone), E-Z Kold express mailed us not only the new compressor, which was still under warranty, but an entirely new “drop-in” holding plate system, fully charged and ready to install.

Thanks to E-Z Kold’s very human service and sensitivity to the challenges of communicating while cruising the island, we are looking forward to enjoying COLD beer in Venezuela this hurricane season.

When this picture was taken in 1998, it was our second season with this boat. One of the first changes we made was to replace the on board refrigerator with an E-Z Kold system. Even though our unit is front loading we were able to enjoy this location for 3 days (the maximum you are allowed to stay at one spot in the park) without having to run our engines to recharge the batteries.
Now we have two E-Z Kold units -we’ve added a top-loading bar fridge - we used the Heat Shield liner to maximize internal space when building the box.
We’ve also added two solar panels from E-Z Kold.

Last summer, on my birthday, my husband surprised me with a couple of ice cream bars for dessert on our 6th day out - they were greatly appreciated as the temperature had been in the high 80’s for three days. Thank you E-Z Kold!

Lori & Mathew .
